I'm not sure about 4K compressed, you could use Cineform if you have it. Otherwise you can use DPX, but these will be big files. I'm Mac based and use ProRes for 4K. Resolve lite the free version cannot render to 4K, for this you would need the full version. The normal way to work would be to finish in Resolve, so unless you are creating a 4K deliverable. Resolve can add and dissolves, wipes, re-framing etc that you include during the edit stage. In most cases all you will be doing back in Vegas is adding final captions and more sophisticated effects and this can be done in HD for an HD final version.
It is actually possible to use Resolve for basic editing. The next version of Resolve will be able to add captions and rollers and have a more comprehensive set of editing tools so for many productions there may be no need to use anything other than Resolve, you can even export a DCP via the EasyDCP plugin thats coming.

Proxies are lower-resolution video files intended for use on the timeline in place of the full-resolution 4K or 8K video files. They are frame-for-frame identical to the original files , just at a lower resolution and bitrate , so they are less taxing on the system and allow for real-time or closer to real-time playback , even with effects added.
So, you can edit, add effects and layers, and do everything you need to do on the timeline and not have to deal with choppy playback.
